A high-flying video and marketing firm is using the latest in remote-controlled technology to help business soar, following a grant from Velocity Business Support.
Dynamics Media, based in Stony Stratford, has used the £1,500 funding towards its purchase of a state-of-the-art ‘drone’, which allows them to add captivating aerial filming and photography to their existing video work.
Managing director Jason Higgins identified the potential of drones, or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in early 2014, and later that year became the first pilot in the region to qualify to use UAVs for commercial filming and photography, gaining both the required BNUC-S pilot qualification and full permission from the Civil Aviation Authority. The new aerial division, called Aero-Dynamics, was officially launched in January 2015.
Dynamics Media has embraced the technology to become pioneers in their field, with the Velocity grant enabling them to purchase the equipment, safeguard jobs and grow their business through increased revenue streams.
The drone has already been used to film commercial and residential property, corporate videos, events and surveys.
Jason said: “Using our UAV allows us to film everyday things from a new and highly engaging perspective”.
“Instead of using camera dollies or hiring cranes and helicopters that cost thousands of pounds, we can record broadcast-quality footage at a fraction of the time and cost,”
Aero Dynamics’ clients can also watch the UAV footage as it happens via live video links, with colour video screens on the ground displaying what the drone sees as it flies.
“The drone can also cover large areas of otherwise inaccessible outdoor terrain with ease, including over water filming, which would not otherwise be possible without huge expense,” he said.
“The results always deliver the ‘wow’ factor – so we’re always excited to get the footage back to the studio”.
Velocity’s £1,500 grant was processed within weeks of meeting business adviser Emmanuelle Clément, who helped guide the company through the application stage.
Mr Higgins added: “The grant was reasonably straightforward to apply for, and our Advisor Emmanuelle was very enthusiastic and helpful right from the first meeting.”
With UAV filming now forming a key part of the company’s video sales strategy, Mr Higgins is convinced more firms will be using aerial filming for their marketing projects.
He said: “Until recently, this type of amazing footage was reserved for Hollywood films or big budget productions, but drones have changed all that.”
