As part of a new pilot the seven District Councils and the County Council in Northamptonshire are working together with SEMLEP’s (South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership) Growth Hub to connect businesses to professional, trusted regulatory advice and support to ensure they stay compliant with the most up to date legislation. This support and advice can be provided informally or via a legally recognised partnership through the ‘Primary Authority’ scheme.
Businesses can now form a Primary Authority Partnership, with one local authority to receive tailored support in relation to one or more specific areas of law. The scheme is designed to help businesses reduce their costs by offering them assured advice- meaning that once the advice has been implemented the business can have confidence that it is compliant and that another regulator can’t require it to comply in a different way.
There are a number of benefits for businesses that have in place a Primary Authority partnership, it can reassure them in their regulated activities and reduce the risk of contravening legislation. Furthermore, businesses can have the confidence to invest in products, processes and premises knowing that the resources they devote to compliance are recognised UK wide.
Stuart Wheeldon Health & Environmental Protection Manager at South Northamptonshire Council states:
“Whatever business you operate, there will be regulation you need to comply with, this could be national and/or local requirements. Regulations are in place to make sure your business, employees and customers are safe.
It is important for everyone (customers, business owners, suppliers, and regulators) that businesses deliver the best possible standards. Therefore, by knowing what is required of them businesses ensure that they fully conform. The pilot offers the opportunity for consultation and education between businesses and Local Authorities to provide the help and support required on an individual basis.”
Could your business benefit from the support available?
